Sumsuch, Will Brock - Free Born Man

Written during a summer visit to the English seaside, transatlantic duo Will Brock and Sumsuch present languid, soulful gem 'Free Born Man', presented with a spine-tingling remix from Deep House hero, Vincenzo.

Warm analogue synth bass and lush keys introduce 'Free Born Man', the perfect foil for Brock's vulnerable and raw vocal performance. Detailing personal struggles with mental health and reminding us that we have choices even in the midst of the fog, this track represents a new level of maturity in the pair's musical journey.

To celebrate Colour and Pitch's 10th anniversary, we treated ourselves to a remix by an all-time production hero, the incomparable Vincenzo. His version reimagines 'Free Born Man' as a timeless Balearic cut, with a hypnotic guitar riff which brilliantly reflects that perfect seaside sunset.

Philadelphia soul artist Will Brock and UK producer Sumsuch have been making music together since 2014, releasing two successful albums on iconic UK label BBE Music under their alias 'Mega Jawns’.

Sumsuch & Will Brock - Humanity Remixed

A year after the release of the original version, Colour and Pitch revisits Sumsuch and Will Brock's tender Deep House cut 'Humanity', with remixes by Paul Losev and DJ Joma.

Premiered in April 2022 on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Paul Losev's rework of 'Humanity' lifts the track into orchestral territory with cinematic sonic atmospherics and spine-tingling piano melodies. Formerly known as Paul2Paul, this is the insanely talented Miami resident Losev's first appearance on Colour and Pitch, and we're very excited to welcome him to the label family.

Host of the brilliant 'Thru The Looking Glass' podcast, Belfast's DJ Joma regularly plays on Bloop London, Data Transmissions Radio, Ibiza Global Radio and Pure Ibiza Radio. His version of 'Humanity' beautifully exemplifies Joma's languid, sun-drenched production style, perfect for the terrace this summer.

'Humanity' is perhaps Sumsuch and Will Brock's most heartfelt and accomplished work to date. Framed by Sumsuch's warm production and lyrical lead guitar, Will Brock's words and powerful delivery are a clarion cry for forgiveness, tenderness and togetherness in these times of great division.

Heed the call. Don't let hate use you. Keep your Humanity.

Sumsuch - Shine (feat. Will Brock)

Since collaborating on ‘Simpatico’, the debut release on Colour and Pitch, US soul-man Will Brock and label boss Sumsuch’s transatlantic partnership has truly blossomed. As ‘Mega Jawns’, their album ‘Ten Letters From Home’ was released in 2014 on BBE Records, with a second album due for release in 2016. Written and recorded in just one night in West Philadelphia during summer 2014, Shine is a spiritual, afro-tinged Deep House track, featuring soaring vocals and life-affirming lyrics from Will Brock.

Having created a truly unique remix for their debut single ‘Simpatico’, it seemed only right to ask aloof production maestro Q-Burns Abstract Message to do it again for ‘Shine’. Effortlessly defying genre tags as usual, his version is a tripped out, deeply touching and achingly beautiful piece of electronic music. Colour and Pitch regular Finest Wear delivers a vintage Deep House reworking, full of light, languid pads over a warm bass-line and masterful drum patterns. Closing out the package, Brock and Sumsuch offer up another taste of their forthcoming album in the form of ‘All Along’, a beautiful soul song laid over light, sunshine-infused House grooves; perfect for beach or terrace lounging.

Under the guise of Mega Jawns, Sumsuch & Brock’s new album ‘Free Yo’ Self’ is due to be released in early 2016 on BBE; until then, enjoy this taste of what’s to come.

Shine is available now, via iTunes or Beatport

Sumsuch - Simpatico feat. Will Brock

Our debut release comes from underground stalwart Sumsuch, whose previous releases on Urban Torque, Apollo & Seven Music have found favour with deep-thinking music lovers across the globe.

The title track 'Simpatico' features vocals from multi-instrumentalist and Philadelphia soul-man Will Brock, adding a seductive warmth to Sumsuch's typically emotive & atmospheric musical backdrop.

The first remix in the package comes from US techno powerhouse and self confessed ‘reclusive perfectionist’, Myles Sergé. His take on the original can only be described as a mournful and tender slice of techno, twinned with off-kilter, driving percussion which creates a beguiling groove.

Next up Orlando native and production hero Q Burns Abstract Message lends his own special touch to Simpatico, complete with rolling drums and a dubby bassline. Treading the fine line between "eclectic experimenter and populist ass-shaker", Q BAM supplies a vintage reworking which defies genre tags. All we can tell you is that it's very, very good.

A final track from Sumsuch completes the package, full of emotional strings, moving basslines and just the right amount of acid. This instrumental track sees Sumsuch at his cinematic best, as he recreates a journey across Philadelphia on the scenic road known as 'Kelly Drive'.

The Philly connection throughout 'Simpatico' is no coincidence. As Sumsuch himself puts it: "Every artist from Philadelphia I've worked with over the years has brought a level of talent, soul, inspiration and magic to each project which I have simply not experienced in any other city on Earth. In Will Brock, I have found yet another Philadelphia collaborator to stretch and challenge me artistically. So this record is humbly dedicated to the City of Brotherly Love. There truly is something in the water!"

Simpatico is out now on Beatport, iTunes, Traxsource & Juno Download.
