Sumsuch, Will Brock - Free Born Man

Written during a summer visit to the English seaside, transatlantic duo Will Brock and Sumsuch present languid, soulful gem 'Free Born Man', presented with a spine-tingling remix from Deep House hero, Vincenzo.

Warm analogue synth bass and lush keys introduce 'Free Born Man', the perfect foil for Brock's vulnerable and raw vocal performance. Detailing personal struggles with mental health and reminding us that we have choices even in the midst of the fog, this track represents a new level of maturity in the pair's musical journey.

To celebrate Colour and Pitch's 10th anniversary, we treated ourselves to a remix by an all-time production hero, the incomparable Vincenzo. His version reimagines 'Free Born Man' as a timeless Balearic cut, with a hypnotic guitar riff which brilliantly reflects that perfect seaside sunset.

Philadelphia soul artist Will Brock and UK producer Sumsuch have been making music together since 2014, releasing two successful albums on iconic UK label BBE Music under their alias 'Mega Jawns’.

Will Brock, Sumsuch - LoA (Land of America)

Philly soul maestro Will Brock reconnects with UK producer Sumsuch for 'LoA (Land of America)', a deep house cut featuring spoken-word vocals detailing a confusing, gaslit experience that'll sound sadly all-too familiar to the Black community in the US of A and beyond.

'LoA' is a dream-like Afro-inspired cut with a sugary sweet harmonic vocal hook, reflecting the seductive charm of the American Dream, so deftly laid bare by Will Brock's freestyle spoken word. We're delighted to welcome talented Australian producer Dave Leck to Colour and Pitch for the first time to remix 'LoA'. Having impressed us for some time with his melodic compositions and flawless sonics, Leck's version lays out a warm and smooth soundscape with sparse and wide horizons, amping up the emotions and gently teasing the hook.

Previously recording two albums for BBE Music as Mega Jawns, the transatlantic duo of Will Brock and Sumsuch have been musical partners and the best of friends for a decade now. ‘LoA' is the latest track to be released from a series of studio sessions which took place in West Philly during May 2022, after the pair had been separated for a couple of years.

Picking up right where they left off with deep music and even deeper conversations, this song shines a light on the constant, subtle gaslighting America seems to inflict on its most vulnerable citizens. Are you truly equal? Is this country your home? As a 'minority' in the USA, the answers to those questions seem to change almost daily.

Sumsuch, Will Brock, Kameelah Waheed - Don't Know Where I'm Going

Philly soul man Will Brock and UK producer Sumsuch present deep and soulful new single ‘Don't Know Where I'm Going', featuring New Jersey vocalist Kameelah Waheed and two stunning remixes by Ireland's Gavin Boyce.

Releasing two albums on BBE Music as Mega Jawns, the transatlantic duo of Will Brock and Sumsuch have been musical partners and the best of friends for almost a decade now. ‘Don't Know Where I'm Going' is the first track to be released from a series of studio sessions which took place in West Philly during May 2022, after the pair had been separated for a couple of years. Picking up right where they left off with deep music and even deeper conversations, this song came into being after an intense discourse on home, ancestry, and what those words mean when you're black in America.

"We were in the studio writing and I was fully in my captive bag" says Will Brock. "When I'm in the fully creative space and free to express myself, I tend to be squarely in the centre of all of the pain and sorrow that western culture puts on Africans. See, home, to a conscious African in America, is longing. A wish. And we've never known it. But we know it ain't here."

"Coming from Europe" says Sumsuch "I think a lot of us take for granted knowing where our ancestors lived and worked, and being able to visit those places, comforted by that deeper sense of home. The generational trauma caused by the uprooting of a people is hard to fathom if it's not your lived experience, but it's so important that we listen and try to understand, as tragically this trauma is still being enacted, day-to-day."

After laying down a demo version, the pair passed it over to poet, rapper, writer and friend, Kameelah Waheed, who laid down a show-stopping spoken word verse in one take. Deep in the Philly scene for decades, Kameelah got her break writing for Bunny Sigler on Philadelphia International Records, going on to collaborate with Larry Gold on BBE, and most recently with Honey Dijon on album ‘Black Girl Magic', released in 2022 on Defected Records.

"The significance of this song" Kameelah writes "is my experience of feeling lost, and when I think about the deeper roots of my origin it is a constant life of searching wondering, of being a detective. But at the same time it is exciting discovering your people, their talents and gifts to the world, and how you are connected."

Fresh from the release of his brilliant album ‘Anywhere Here' on Nordic Trax, Irish producer Gavin Boyce turns in a pair of timeless Deep House reworks of ‘Don't Know Where I'm Going'; a mournful yet smooth-grooving main mix, and a drastically different dub, laced with intricate percussion and evocative chord-fragments.

Sumsuch & Will Brock - Humanity Remixed

A year after the release of the original version, Colour and Pitch revisits Sumsuch and Will Brock's tender Deep House cut 'Humanity', with remixes by Paul Losev and DJ Joma.

Premiered in April 2022 on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Paul Losev's rework of 'Humanity' lifts the track into orchestral territory with cinematic sonic atmospherics and spine-tingling piano melodies. Formerly known as Paul2Paul, this is the insanely talented Miami resident Losev's first appearance on Colour and Pitch, and we're very excited to welcome him to the label family.

Host of the brilliant 'Thru The Looking Glass' podcast, Belfast's DJ Joma regularly plays on Bloop London, Data Transmissions Radio, Ibiza Global Radio and Pure Ibiza Radio. His version of 'Humanity' beautifully exemplifies Joma's languid, sun-drenched production style, perfect for the terrace this summer.

'Humanity' is perhaps Sumsuch and Will Brock's most heartfelt and accomplished work to date. Framed by Sumsuch's warm production and lyrical lead guitar, Will Brock's words and powerful delivery are a clarion cry for forgiveness, tenderness and togetherness in these times of great division.

Heed the call. Don't let hate use you. Keep your Humanity.

Glass Slipper - Love is Feeling

Texas duo Glass Slipper return to Colour and Pitch, with a special House remake of the 1977 Eloise Laws classic 'Love Is Feeling', with a remix from Sumsuch.

"Eloise, Ronny and the Laws Family were musical royalty in Houston, where I grew up" says vocalist Lisa Cork-Twiss. "This was one of my favorite songs from her album "Eloise". Brad sent me an instrumental track he was working on and I immediately started humming "Love is Feeling" to it... I'm paying tribute to my roots with this adaptation."

The other half of Glass Slipper, producer Brad Eller, provides a crisp, clean, acid-tinged House music backdrop for 'Love Is Feeling', as well as turning in a hypnotic Dub version and an instrumental.

Colour and Pitch founder Sumsuch steps up to deliver a raw, atmospheric and spacious Deep House version of 'Love Is Feeling', putting Lisa's powerful vocal up front and adding just a touch of jazz in the breakdown.

Sumsuch & Will Brock - You Could Fly

Will Brock and Sumsuch return to Colour and Pitch with uplifting, soulful gem, 'You Could Fly', presented with remixes from Gavin Boyce and Glass Slipper.

Also releasing together on BBE Music as Mega Jawns, the Philly / UK duo of Will Brock and Sumsuch have been releasing music together ever since 'Simpatico', the first ever single on Colour and Pitch back in 2013. 'You Could Fly' is typical of the duo's warm, human, song-based brand of electronic music, with soaring vocals and sparkling piano from Brock, matched with lyrical guitars and smooth production from Sumsuch.

Hot on the heels of his landmark 2021 album 'Anywhere Here' on Nordic Trax, Irish producer Gavin Boyce turns in a typically deep, understated yet intricate revision of 'You Could Fly', slowing the tempo and squeezing even more emotion from Brock's vocals.

Fresh from releases on Reel People Music and Foliage to name but two, and being remixed by the great Atjazz, Austin TX pair Glass Slipper return to Colour and Pitch with a super-soulful re-imagining of 'You Could Fly'. Turning the song into a duet with additional powerhouse vocals from Lisa Cork-Twiss, Glass Slipper's remake takes the song up, up, and away!

Sumsuch & Will Brock - Humanity

UK / Philadelphia duo Sumsuch and Will Brock return to Colour and Pitch with soulful new Deep House track, Humanity.

Releasing on BBE Music as Mega Jawns, Will Sumsuch and Will Brock have been making music together since 2013, when they joined forces for the first ever release on Colour and Pitch, 'Simpatico'.

'Humanity' is perhaps their most heartfelt and accomplished work yet. Framed by Sumsuch's warm production and lyrical lead guitar, Will Brock's words and powerful delivery are a clarion cry for forgiveness, tenderness and togetherness in these times of great division.

The song came together quickly after a conversation between the two friends, discussing racial and political divisions in both the USA and UK. "So many of us cling to ideas and identities handed to us by whichever society we happen to be born into" says Sumsuch. "Will and I were talking about how people have become so attached to stances and beliefs that hurt themselves and others. I'd been feeling a lot of sadness about this when I was composing the instrumental, which I'd sent him just before our call. About two hours after we spoke, he sent back the finished song. My jaw hit the floor when I heard the words he'd written."

"Feel the beat of every human soul" sings Brock. "Love with all your heart and then some more".

Heed the call. Don't let hate use you. Use your Humanity.

The Self Help Group - Temple OS

Brighton alt-folk band The Self Help Group's touching and unique song ‘Temple OS' gets the remix treatment from Gavin Boyce, Grottoes, Rosko & Sumsuch and Eric Shans.

The original song, written by Brighton musician Mark Bruce, founder of The Self Help Group, is inspired by the strange and tragic story of Terry A. Davis. Davis began programming the ‘Temple OS' computer operating system in 2005 after a series of visions in which he claimed God had instructed him to build ‘the Third Temple', as prophesied in the Bible.

Reunited for the first time since their 2009 low-key underground hit ‘Latenite Bypass' on Urban Torque, Rosko & Sumsuch turn in an acid-tinged, string-laden, extended rework of the song, putting Mark's powerful vocal out front and dubbing the song out in the second half.

Off-kilter electronic music hero Q-Burns Abstract Message unveils his brand new Grottoes alias for a meditative, ambient ‘Reversion' of ‘Temple OS', layering guitars over airy synths to build up a densely textured soundscape.

With an album coming soon on Nordic Trax, Irish producer Gavin Boyce delivers a potent and haunting House ‘2MB Distro Mix' of Temple OS, sure to provide many a transcendental dance-floor moment when the clubs finally re-open.

Colour and Pitch regular and 3Bridge Records co-owner Eric Shans stays true to the original version, adding subtle electronic melodies and shimmering chords to delightful effect.

Finally, The Self Group provide an alternate rendition of ‘Temple OS', transforming the song into a languid and warm synth-pop gem.

Sumsuch & Will Brock - There Comes A Time

'We declare, that you no longer have the right to steal our joy!' That's the message, as Will Brock and Sumsuch return to Colour and Pitch with new single 'There Comes a Time'.

Will Brock and Sumsuch have been making music together since 2014, releasing two successful albums on iconic UK label BBE Music under their alias 'Mega Jawns'.

In the grand tradition of Soul music, the instrumentation of 'There Comes a Time' is warm, lush and comforting, the lyrics filled with equal measures of pain and hope. Gospel-tinged contemporary deep house might be the best way to describe this mercurial and powerful song.

Whether politics, relationships, poverty or discrimination, there is so much in the World designed to steal our joy. 'There Comes a Time' is a signpost toward an imagined, but entirely possible, promised land- a future where we can all come together with love and compassion for one another.

Tibor Dragan - Follow the Path

Tibor Dragan - Follow the Path
Hungarian talent Tibor Dragan returns to Colour and Pitch with a sublime new cut entitled 'Follow The Path', accompanied by a collaborative remix from David Marston & Sumsuch.

Filled with his trademark shimmering chords and warm, languid production touches, 'Follow The Path' perfectly encapsulates the reason that Tibor Dragan is quickly gaining prominence in the worlds of Deep House and melodic electronica.

Fresh from stellar releases on BBE Music and his own Kindness of Bearer Recordings, Jamaican musician David Marston joins forces with Colour and Pitch founder Sumsuch for a very special remix.

Recorded just before COVID lockdown in Spring 2020, Marston and Sumsuch's rework of 'Follow The Path' began life as an evening spent jamming together on guitar and keys over a few of Dragan's original parts, resulting in an organic and spine tingling set opener with a distinctly live feel.

Sumsuch feat. Will Brock - She Walks on Water

Known to soul music fans by the alias Mega Jawns, Philly soul man Will Brock and UK producer Sumsuch reunite for haunting, melodic Deep House cut 'She Walks On Water'.

Produced remotely during the 2020 COVID19 outbreak, 'She Walks One Water' started life with Sumsuch jamming on an analogue drum machine, recorded live, then enhanced with atmospheric, liquid synths and a warm bass-line.

The work-in-progress was immediately sent to Will Brock, who added spine-tingling live piano and smooth, subtle vocals. The whole thing came together within 24 hours, and that immediacy and organic feel comes across loud and clear in this understated masterpiece.

Under the 'Mega Jawns' moniker, Will Brock and Sumsuch have released two albums on legendary British label BBE Music. Eric Shans feat. Stephanie Lombardo - All Of My Love

New York producer Eric Shans reunites with singer songwriter Stephanie Lombardo for touching, unaffected duet 'All Of My Love', with remixes by Sumsuch and Tibor Dragan.

First joining forces on 2018 track 'Feel Alive' on Colour and Pitch, Eric Shans and Stephanie Lombardo have come up with another gem of a tune. 'All Of My Love' is a charming love song with a simple message, sung over Eric's clean, melodic production.

Colour and Pitch founder Sumsuch completely rebuilds 'All Of My Love' from the ground up, transforming the song into a life-affirming, disco infused cut, laden with piano chords, subtle strings and acoustic drums. He also delivers a fun 'Voxstamental' version, replacing the singers with smooth vocoder chords.

Finally, hotshot Hungarian producer Tibor Dragan turns in a delightfully deep revision, filled with warm chords and spine-tingling melodies.

Sumsuch - Stay For Sunset

Label founder Sumsuch returns to Colour and Pitch with the label's 50th release, a luscious, languid cut entitled 'Stay For Sunset'.

Starting life as a fragment of melody ringing around the artist's head on the way home from the beach one summer's day, 'Stay For Sunset' is a deceptively simple composition built around a warm, inviting guitar line, live piano and inviting analogue drums.

Aside from being one of Sumsuch's favourite words, the 'Gloaming' mix nicely summons up that moment just before night falls, removing the lead guitar but leaving its ghostly imprint across the track, while pulling up the percussion to create a dusky, hypnotic groove.

Sumsuch - We Are Ordinary

Colour and Pitch label founder Sumsuch returns home with an eclectic 3 track EP titled ‘We Are Ordinary'.

Opening track ‘We Are Ordinary' is a disco-infused house cut with heavy drums, tight chord stabs and live bass, featuring Jacob Daniels on vocals.

The message is a simple reaction against the age of ego we're living in: "we aren't all that special, in fact, We Are Ordinary."

Second track ‘Don't Turn Your Back' is a downtempo piano and synth composition, inspired by an interview with a 16-year-old prison inmate in the USA. The piece explores empathy, questioning any society that would simply write off a fellow human.

The EP closes with analogue deep house cut Maze Hill, a comforting and reflective journey through a warm, inviting sonic landscape with scratchy piano and subtle live guitar melodies leading the way.

Out June 14th on all stores and streaming sites.

Third Floor Tiger - Years of Hide and Seek

Third Floor Tiger is a solo project by musician and composer Tudor Moore. Tudor was an early member of Afterlife and contributed to some of the enduring classics of the 90's Ibiza Cafe del Mar scene.

2009 saw the first Third Floor Tiger release on the UK house label Urban Torque, titled Sub Rosa. Far from being prolific in output, there were releases on the chic Parisian imprint Wagram and Subatomic amongst others. In the years since, Tudor has been studying classical composition, pure mathematics and machine learning. Through this he began designing and programming computer instruments, the first of which appears on this single - the Riemann Pad.

Featuring cello by Matt Constantine and live horns by Tudor himself, ‘Years Of Hide And Seek' is a deeply moving fusion of classical and electronic music. Stirring, melancholic and uplifting in equal measure, the piece feels cinematic and powerful; in the midst of a disposable era, here's some real substance.

Colour and Pitch founder Sumsuch provides a lush and sensitive deep house reworking, letting the cello parts work their magic over subtle electric piano and hangdrum atmospheres. Finally Leigh Morgan (the man who signed both Tudor and Sumsuch to Urban Torque all those years ago) turns in a delightfully wonky and unique remix, nicely representing the charismatic sound for which his new ‘Fancy Human' imprint is becoming well known and loved. This release marks a strong return for Third Floor Tiger after a decade in the wilderness. Years of Hide And Seek, but mostly hiding.

Finest Wear - Understanding Me

Fresh from well received releases on Nite Grooves, Large and Nordic Trax, Finest Wear returns to his spiritual home of Colour and Pitch with new EP 'Understanding Me', featuring a remix from label founder Sumsuch.

Opening track 'Understanding' is filled with Finest Wear's distinctive warm and subtle deep house atmospheres with rolling percussion, weighty bass and a vocal that tells us what we all know: 'not everyone understands'.

'To The Top' heads into late night hypnotic territory, with rhythmic chords and an insistent groove you can't help but move to. Send the kids out of the room for 'Paradise Lost', a smoothly building track whose climax is echoed by an enthusiastic, wordless vocal sample borrowed, perhaps, from a 'specialist' movie. Rounding off the package, label founder Sumsuch reworks 'Understanding', stripping the track to bare bones and using analogue drums and synths to rebuild it with an old-school feel.

Glass Slipper - Embrace Of The Sun

Super-talented, Austin Texas based vocal house duo Glass Slipper unveil two stunning tracks on Colour and Pitch, with remixes from the label's founding fathers Sumsuch and Finest Wear. Comprising veteran (San Francisco) Bay Area producer, Brad Eller, and former vocalist for chart topping dance act 'Real McCoy', Lisa Cork-Twiss, Glass Slipper create uncluttered, hooky deep house tracks with powerful, soulful vocals.

Opening track 'Let's Go To The Light' twins stripped down percussion and warm filtered pads with arresting vocal harmonies which spell out a simple message: "love will see us through". Colour and Pitch label boss Sumsuch extends the track over ten sublime minutes, re-composing the instrumental and adding live pianos to drive home those poignant vocals.

Title track 'Embrace Of The Sun' enters classic deep house territory, with uplifting strings and a warm bass-line providing the perfect backdrop for Lisa's dreamy looped vocals. Named one of the top 100 deep house artists of 2017, Colour and Pitch regular Finest Wear turns in a classic deep and grooving rework, taking the track into late-night dance-floor territory.

Sumsuch - Hand Me Down Demons

Hand Me Down Demons, an EP by Sumsuch
Colour and Pitch founder and BBE recording artist Sumsuch returns to his own label with brand new solo EP ‘Hand Me Down Demons'. Exploring the power held by ghosts from the past to damage or even destroy our relationships if we let them, ‘Hand Me Down Demons' is split into three distinct movements. Originating as an improvised piano piece, ‘We Should Talk' quickly evolved into a subtle, warm deep house instrumental, with analogue drums and bass providing a bed for plaintive, heartfelt melodies. Title track ‘Hand Me Down Demons' has a grittier character, with a heavily tweaked acid bass-led groove and eerie vocal harmonies creating a dense, late-night club atmosphere. ‘Slipping Under' closes the EP with a simple classical piano composition set over swirling synth atmospheres and distant seagull cries, symbolizing that final, teary-eyed ending. Music-making at its most cathartic, we hope you enjoy this resonant journey from joy to melancholy in the company of some Hand Me Down Demons we've probably all met before.
