BiG AL - Smiling in the Sand

Colour and Pitch welcomes BiG AL back to the label with driving Deep House cut 'Smiling in the Sand', presented with a remix from Tim Tonal.

Pioneer of the Deep House sound in the Middle East and founder of Ready Mix Records, BiG AL flexes the more dancefloor-leaning side of his distinctive, smooth production style on 'Smiling in the Sand', combining a rolling groove and rock-solid bassline with syncopated vocal fragments and shimmering atmospherics.

UK producer Tim Tonal turns in a beautifully twisted version of 'Smiling in the Sand', with staccato synths and energetic drums leading the charge toward a deftly filtered acid rave-gasm.

Tim Tonal - Light My Way

Tim Tonal returns to Colour and Pitch with new Deep House cut ‘Light My Way', featuring remixes from Jean Jacques Smoothie, Dadhaus, PJ Principle and Second City Firsts

One half of Tonal Fusion and Alpha Dogs, Nottingham producer Tim Tonal has been a regular on Colour and Pitch since 2017. New single ‘Light My Way' showcases Tim's deeper side, with hypnotic arpeggios, smooth chords and a rock-steady groove.

We're delighted to welcome UK crossover hero Jean Jacques Smoothie to Colour and Pitch for a lithe and supple House rework of ‘Light My Way', a great reminder of why his remixes are in constant demand from artists across the musical spectrum, from Kylie Minogue to Goldie Lookin Chain.

Comprising producers Rod Devonshire and Anthony Leonard (Lenodd), Dadhaus deliver a beautifully poised post-rave reworking of the track, featuring vocoders and warm synth lines galore.

PJ Principle returns with a sparse and crisp version of ‘Light My Way', allowing plenty of space for each part to breathe, while introducing shimmering synth strings and a melodious new bass-line.

Last but not least, Steve Griffo Griffiths returns in Second City Firsts guise with a mid-tempo workout that combines his love of both dub reggae and the San Francisco Hardkiss label's early 90's vibe, with a nod towards Gary Numan in the track's synth breakdown.

Tim Tonal - Switchback Remixed

Tim Tonal returns to Colour and Pitch with even more remixes of his gorgeous underground hit 'Switchback', featuring Finest Wear, Andrew Duke and Eric Shans.

Tim harks back to his UK rave roots with 'Switchback III', a delightfully retro version of the track, featuring uplifting synth strings, a euphoric piano breakdown and a dance-floor ready arrangement straight from the 90s.

Colour and Pitch stalwart Finest Wear turns in a typically classy, deep reworking with bouncy drums and tight stabs.

Canadian Andrew Duke steers 'Switchback' into darker, headier territory, with his atmospheric and heavy-grooving take on the track.

Finally, Brooklyn's Eric Shans serves up a deep, melodic and ever-so-slightly proggy version, typical of the 3Bridge Records sound.

Tim Tonal - Switchback EP

Following up his 2017 'Rhythmic Indulgence' EP, Tim Tonal returns to Colour and Pitch with the stunning 'Switchback' EP, complete with remixes by PJ Principle and Wolf Hackmine.

DJ and producer Tim Barnett, aka Tim Tonal, has a rich history in the UK electronic scene, having released on the iconic DiY Discs both as part of Tonal Fusion and one half of Alpha Dogs. Switchback showcases Tim's impressive production chops with a classy and expertly constructed House groove, carrying just enough dance-floor weight and acid power to nod to his background in the rave scene. A darker, dubbier, stripped down second version, Switchback II, is also included for the late night heads.

Fellow DiY Discs graduate PJ Principle provides Switchback's first remix, imbuing the track with a timeless Deep House vibe and offering up a nimble, airy arrangement, plus sumptuous analogue sounds galore.

Birmingham born Steve 'Griffo' Griffiths returns in his Wolf Hackmine guise, this time channeling his near 30 year love for the 'Wild Pitch' style as championed in the 90's by DJ Pierre and DJ Duke. The 'Tono Salvaje' remix manages to hold the attention of both the feet and the head as it slowly grooves and builds over its epic 11 minute duration.

Tim Tonal - Rhythmic Indulgence

Following his much admired reworking of Wolf Hackmine’s ‘One Three One Four’ back in March 2017, Tim Tonal returns to Colour and Pitch with bipartite bubbler, ‘Rhythmic Indulgence’. Releasing his deeply rooted brand of House music for more than 15 years and collaborating with the likes of Jean Jacques Smoothie along the way, Tim Tonal is best known for his work on DiY Discs as one half of Tonal Fusion and Alpha Dogs.

As you might expect from such a seasoned artist, ‘Rhythmic Indulgence’ is a masterful House music journey split into two parts, ‘Dark Peak’ and ‘Chemical Metal’. Designed with the golden age of outdoor parties and big sound-systems firmly in mind, ‘Tonal’s Dark Peak Version’ steadily builds a compulsive, driving groove before introducing a teasing acid bassline that takes the track up, up and away. Opening with the same subtle breakbeat, ‘Tonal’s Chemical Metal Version’ quickly adds slightly eerie chord pads, giving the track an altogether more expansive feel with dubby techno influences on display, even when the acid hits.

Also a veteran of the mighty DiY Discs under his ‘Peej’ alias, producer Paul Johnston has hit a rich run of form since premiering his ‘PJ Principle’ moniker with the incredible ‘First Principles’ EP on Pete Woosh’s ‘Spirit Wrestlers’ label in 2015. Rendering us speechless when it arrived in the Colour and Pitch office, PJ Principle’s remix of ‘Rhythmic Indulgence’ is simply a modern classic. Warm and potently harmonious deep house, this inventive reworking also tips its hat to the more melodic moments of classic techno labels like Underground Resistance and Metroplex. Closing out proceedings, Wolf Hackmine (also known as Second City Firsts and Steve ‘Griffo’ at his ‘Splosh’ DJ residency) delivers a smooth, bass-led take on ‘Rhythmic Indulgence’, adding hypnotic filtered synths and lush, retro strings.
