Jean Jacques Smoothie - 2People Remixes

Heralding his forthcoming debut album, 'Sleeping In The Flowerbeds', which is to be released on Colour and Pitch toward the end of 2025, Jean Jacques Smoothie presents brand new remixes of his timeless hit '2People' featuring Richard Earnshaw, The NRG, and Smoothie himself.

The package opens with Jean Jacques Smoothie's own delightfully downtempo, 'Dubwise' version of '2People', featuring melodica by Rochenko and a sultry new vocal from Tara Busch. UK soulful hero Richard Earnshaw dons his Inner Spirit guise to deliver a selection of super-deep, jazz-tinged house mixes, perfect for late summer terraces and beach clubs. Finally, mythical kings of ambient, The NRG, turn in a stunning ambient rework, perfect for those spiritual, reflective moments.

"I knew that I couldn't release a debut Jean Jacques Smoothie album without the song that made it all happen" says Jean Jacques Smoothie. "You can't be a One Hit Wonder and not celebrate your one hit! So I went somewhere new and combined my love of dub with a new vocal recording by my good friend Tara Busch. I took lots of elements from the original and inspiration from the Mirwais Radio edit to create something brand new.

I was so happy when Colour & Pitch hooked me up with Richard Earnshaw. I've been a huge fan of his music for a long time, and I knew that a deep, jazzy Inner Spirit remix was the house mix that we needed. Added to this is a sublime ambient workout from my old friends the Stadium Ambient band that never was, The NRG. Next year will be the 25 year anniversary of '2People' and I'm so proud that the original is still getting played on BBC Radio 1 after all this time. I hope that a new generation of listeners will enjoy these mixes which I think have brought the song up to date while still maintaining a link to my musical history.

Of course, Minnie Ripperton's unbelievable voice and original song Inside My Love is the real inspiration. I hope that people will seek out more of her music and appreciate the foundations of everything we do."

Finest Wear - Night Tales

Colour and Pitch favourite Finest Wear returns to the label with a three track EP packed with dancefloor attitude, entitled Night Tales.

With hot releases on Nite Grooves and Nordic Trax to his name, Finest Wear has made several appearances in the Traxsource top 100 Deep House artists list, and with good reason.

His last EP on Colour and Pitch, ‘The Terminal' was a storming success thanks to lead track ‘Go Deeper', and how he returns to us with with a somewhat tougher, peak-time offering.

'Push Me' sets out the stall nicely, with rolling drums and blunted synth giving way to a tough bassline and a subtle vocal hook.

Techno-influenced ‘Ket Corner' was titled after a group of youngsters the producer spotted, possibly enjoying themselves a little too much, during an outdoor event in the Oxfordshire countryside… Let's just say, it's aptly named.

'The Buzz Dub' returns to the familiar Finest Wear sound, with classic Deep House chords and an effortless groove backing the eerie swarm of synth-wasps trying to escape from the speakers.

BiG AL - Smiling in the Sand

Colour and Pitch welcomes BiG AL back to the label with driving Deep House cut 'Smiling in the Sand', presented with a remix from Tim Tonal.

Pioneer of the Deep House sound in the Middle East and founder of Ready Mix Records, BiG AL flexes the more dancefloor-leaning side of his distinctive, smooth production style on 'Smiling in the Sand', combining a rolling groove and rock-solid bassline with syncopated vocal fragments and shimmering atmospherics.

UK producer Tim Tonal turns in a beautifully twisted version of 'Smiling in the Sand', with staccato synths and energetic drums leading the charge toward a deftly filtered acid rave-gasm.

Latch - Frida

Colour and Pitch is delighted to present 'Frida', the debut release by Latch, the Brighton based duo of DJ Lee Garrett and musician James Morpeth.

Perfectly encapsulating the melodic, soul-stirring sound Colour and Pitch always strives for, 'Frida' is a subtle, shimmering piece of deep house art, with warm analogue synths meeting rolling percussion in a teasing evolution that satisfies without ever quite reaching crescendo.

Local hero Lee Garrett has a long history in House music, building a well-deserved reputation for both his truly outstanding selections and his technical ability, always staying true to the music without ever resorting to hype or self promotion.

James Morpeth is talented live musician and producer, with a history in soul, afrobeat, folk, pop, electronica and more.

Coming together to form Latch, the pair began to blend Morpeth's rich musicality and texture with hypnotic rhythms and soulful colour, all overseen by Garrett's deeply-rooted dance-floor knowledge.

'Frida' is just the first in a trio of releases from Latch on Colour and Pitch- standby for more.

Weston Butler - Moonshadows

For our 41st release on Colour and Pitch, we are delighted to welcome New York music-maker Weston Butler to the label family with progressive gem, Moonshadows.

Introduced to us by 3Bridge Records director Eric Shans, Weston Butler has spent the last few years building a solid reputation for melodic, subtle DJ sets at venues such as Cielo, Good Room, and ANALOG BKNY.

Although Weston Butler is a fairly new name to the production scene, 'Moonshadows' shows impressive maturity both in composition and arrangement; a deep and progressive journey that's simply a joy from start to finish.

Eric Shans adds orchestral touches to 'Moonshadows' with his languid, slow-building rework, adding sweeping strings and subtle synth touches that border on cinematic.

Former Sub Club and Nitsa Club resident DJ and now a compelling production talent to boot, Mark Ryal delivers a typically genre-defying, vintage and authentically deep remix of Moonshadows, shimmering with nocturnal beauty.

Glass Slipper - Embrace Of The Sun

Super-talented, Austin Texas based vocal house duo Glass Slipper unveil two stunning tracks on Colour and Pitch, with remixes from the label's founding fathers Sumsuch and Finest Wear. Comprising veteran (San Francisco) Bay Area producer, Brad Eller, and former vocalist for chart topping dance act 'Real McCoy', Lisa Cork-Twiss, Glass Slipper create uncluttered, hooky deep house tracks with powerful, soulful vocals.

Opening track 'Let's Go To The Light' twins stripped down percussion and warm filtered pads with arresting vocal harmonies which spell out a simple message: "love will see us through". Colour and Pitch label boss Sumsuch extends the track over ten sublime minutes, re-composing the instrumental and adding live pianos to drive home those poignant vocals.

Title track 'Embrace Of The Sun' enters classic deep house territory, with uplifting strings and a warm bass-line providing the perfect backdrop for Lisa's dreamy looped vocals. Named one of the top 100 deep house artists of 2017, Colour and Pitch regular Finest Wear turns in a classic deep and grooving rework, taking the track into late-night dance-floor territory.

Eric Shans - Start To Feel

Brooklyn DJ and producer Eric Shans returns to Colour and Pitch armed with 4 pieces of melodic, bittersweet deep house music. Creative director for 3Bridge records and a fixture on New York's underground club circuit, Eric has previously released two stunning EPs on the label, as well as remixing Colour and Pitch founder Sumsuch's 2017 terrace anthem ‘Saint Elias' which was featured on Clubstar's winter compilation 'Chalet Beats No.5'.

Blending his own plaintive vocals with those of singer Stephanie Lombardo, Eric Shans conjours up musical magic for opening track ‘Feel Alive', fusing new wave, film score and shoe-gazing house sensibilities. Hypnotic deep tech follows in Eric's second offering ‘In A Dream', a cut characterised by foggy, slightly spooky chords over driving beats. Sad and uplifting in equal measure, ‘Let Go' expertly plays with our heartstrings, employing powerful melodies, muted guitars and a spine-tingling vocal hook to create a poignant atmosphere. Finally ‘It's The Waves' heads into grittier club territory with its drone-like synths, techno-inspired bass-lines and dynamic percussion.

Dizzy Praet - Dreams

Poised elegantly at the crossroads between melodic techno and deep house music, ‘Dreams' is the debut EP from a mysterious artist known only as Dizzy Praet. We are unable to confirm or deny rumours that Dizzy Praet is the new alter ego for a well-known producer hailing from Kiev, Ukraine, with a raft of chart-topping house and techno releases already under his belt. All we could do if you asked us is smile…

Either an ambitious EP or a small yet perfectly formed album, ‘Dreams' comprises six thoughtful, nostalgic, cinematic and at times bleak electronic compositions. Fans of Stimming, Andre Lodemann and HVOB will revel in the stripped back, restrained sound and subtle arrangements. With original artwork created by the artist himself, we invite you to enter the strange and beautiful dream world of Dizzy Praet.

Mark Ryal - The Red Cell EP

Get the EP via: Traxsource | Beatport | iTunes | Juno | Spotify

Highly respected underground House and Techno DJ Mark Ryal returns to Colour and Pitch with the follow up to his acclaimed 2015 debut EP ‘4th Floor and Rising’. A long-time resident at Glasgow’s Sub Club during the 90s, Mark often shared the booth with luminaries such as Derrick May and Claude Young, as well as hosting The Red Cell, a Thursday night soiree which gave this EP its title.

The Red Cell EP sees Mark exploring intensely personal themes throughout four musically rich, powerful and emotional compositions. From the dream-like opener ‘Blood Orange’ through a bleakly beautiful two part deep space odyssey ‘Orbiter’, to the elegant and tranquil melody of ‘Martian Sunrise’, ‘The Red Cell’ EP is best enjoyed as one single piece of sonic art.

“Something about my favourite producers I’ve always marvelled at is their ability to tell a story through the music. From Dan Curtin and Ron Trent to Carl Finlow and Larry Heard, from Kirk Degiorgio and Josh Brent to Lars Sandberg and Glenn Underground; all have special ways of making their songs flow and communicate with the listener. It’s something that has influenced me deeply throughout my life; it’s something I strive to achieve. This collection of music is the soundtrack to a certain point in my life: the point where we were waiting for my nanna (grandmother) to die. Hopefully they convey something of the joy she brought to me.” – Mark Ryal, 2017

Wolf Hackmine - One Three One Four

Buy via Traxsource | Beatport

Wolf Hackmine is one of several alter egos employed by veteran Birmingham DJ and producer Steve ‘Griffo’ Griffiths, now residing in sunny Spain. Encapsulating the darker, techno-inspired side of Steve’s many influences, Wolf Hackmine was born during a New Year studio session as 2013 gave way to 2014, hence the title ‘One Three One Four’. In the three years since its creation, this highly effective acid house workout has become something of a closely guarded weapon shared with only a select few DJs, among them Richard Norris (Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve) who played the track at his notorious ‘Basement Filth’ event.

Finally released from the basement, ‘One Three One Four’ finds its home on Colour and Pitch alongside three very special remixes. Perhaps best known for his work on DiY Discs as a member of Alpha Dogs, Nottingham producer Tim Tonal takes the track into classic Deep House territory, subtly filtering those acid lines whilst adding warm, haunting chords and a shimmering piano breakdown. Founder member of pioneering Manchester rave act ‘Together’ turned composer and sound designer, Suddi Raval delivers an effortlessly cool ‘Acid Dub’ version, atmospheric and smooth throughout. Finally, Steve himself returns in his ‘Second City Firsts’ guise to rework the track, raising both intensity and urgency, summoning up classic Hardfloor by adding even more acid into the mix.

Eric Shans - We Choose EP

New York producer Eric Shans is a staple of the city’s electronic music scene, working as creative director at 3Bridge Records and holding down several DJ residencies, most notably inTRANSIT at TBA Brooklyn. His earliest musical inspirations came from watching new wave videos on MTV as a kid, the echoes of which are more than evident within his debut EP for Colour and Pitch.

Title track ‘We Choose’ is an evocative fusion of clean electronic beats, warm chords and 80’s guitar licks, sure to tickle the heartstrings. ‘Keep A Secret’ combines smooth, deep house with classic 303 acid lines, with a subtle vocal gently whispered into the listener’s ear. ‘Is It Tonight’ pays homage to classic new-wave music with its darker, dense aesthetic; haunting yet deeply sensual. ‘Set Us Free’ closes out the EP as it began, resembling ‘We Choose’ somewhat in terms of feel, with stunning, layered vocals performed by Eric himself.

“This EP was created over the course of a few months and goes between the contrasting worlds of hope, sadness, optimism, caution and the idea of feeling free; moving on and letting go for the now and for the future.” – Eric Shans, 2016

Da Funk - The Prophecy

A friend, featured remixer and supporter of Colour and Pitch since day one, we are delighted to welcome Da Funk back to our little label, this time with brand new original track ‘The Prophecy'. Boasting releases on Pacha Recordings and Anjunadeep as well as his own Acryl Music, Da Funk is just as prolific as he is talented. 'The Prophecy' is a rolling, deep and energetic slice of tech house aimed squarely at the dance-floor. Da Funk expertly builds up an atmospheric groove over the first three minutes before unleashing old-school acid tweaks, drum breaks and finally a wonderfully uplifting piano hook that's sure to raise the roof.

Label owner Sumsuch takes the helm for the first of two remixes, dirtying up Da Funk's chord stabs by putting them through a guitar amp whilst adding warm, deep bass and classic House drums for a late-night club workout. Sumsuch's trademark melodic approach is highly evident however, particularly in the smooth, chord-laden breakdown.

Ultra-talented London producer Finest Wear provides the second remix, which is typically intricate, floaty and deep. Showcasing that euphoric piano alongside teasing breakbeat snippets somehow lends this version the feel of a 90's rave classic, without any need for hi-vis jackets or Vick's Vapour Rub to enhance the experience.

Sumsuch - The Dust Bowl EP

The Dust Bowl is a concept EP of sorts, drawing inspiration from the Great Depression in the American Midwest as a commentary on today's musical climate. With a general redistribution of wealth away from artists and toward giant tech companies, underground music could conceivably be facing a ‘dust bowl' scenario of its own.

As Sumsuch puts it: "So many DJs and producers are ploughing the same dry furrows of social media, fake success and delusional hopes, whilst the reality is a barren landscape, plundered of all nutrients and substance. Those of us who've always lived here know how to survive, but it's a tough environment."

Brooding opening track ‘Dust Bowl Dreams' could not embody the concept more fully, dominated by swirling, whooshing synth atmospheres and eerie chord fragments. Sumsuch took the decision to perform the filter sweeps and arrangement live in order to add even more tension and grit. ‘Guiding Light' offers a beacon of hope, an escape from the desolation of The Dust Bowl. Warm bass and haunting piano chords make this Deep House gem feel comforting and familiar. "Could you be my guiding light?" ask Sumsuch's heavily effected lyrics. Following is the only way to be sure.

Hamza - Deep Room Driver EP

We are honoured to welcome Wind Horse Records founder Hamza to the Colour and Pitch family with this wonderful three track EP. At the forefront of India’s burgeoning House scene, Hamza is a true musical journeyman, having toured the USA and Europe whilst remaining close to his New Delhi roots.

The ‘Deep Room Driver EP’ represents a slight departure from Hamza’s usual melodic House sound. Influenced by Berlin’s Deep Tech scene, these tracks are stripped down and full of attitude, whilst retaining a great deal of musicality, not to mention an unmistakably Eastern aesthetic.

Opening track ‘Jungly’ brings a flavour of the remote tropics into the club, with tribal percussion and mystical flutes rubbing shoulders over a dense House groove. ‘Deep Room Driver’ is a deliciously moody, bass driven workout, dancing around the fine line between darkness and light. Last but not least, ‘Cielo’ lightens the mood with its New York influenced, bouncy Deep House vibe.

The Deep Room Driver EP is out now on Beatport, all stores September 7th.

Mark Ryal - 4th Floor and Rising

Our 13th release sees a long awaited solo debut from a true heavyweight of underground techno and house culture, Mark Ryal. Resident at Glasgow’s seminal ‘Sub Club’ back in the 1990’s, Mark regularly shared the booth with the likes of Derrick May and Claude Young while hosting legendary nights such as UK Gold, Red Cell and Aqua Planet.

Upon moving to Barcelona in 1997, Mark quickly established himself as a fixture in the city’s emerging techno scene, as well as opening his own record shop, Indeep. Now running a stunning restaurant just outside the city, Mark’s focus has turned to production, driven by a lifetime’s worth of dance music knowledge.

Reminiscent of Stacey Pullen & Chez Damier’s most delicate works, the ‘4th Floor & Rising EP’ is packed full of emotion and old-school charm. Made entirely on an MPC and a selection of synthesizers, this is underground House music in it’s purest form, chopped and arranged on the fly, constantly touched by human hand rather than letting machines do the work.

4th Floor and Rising is out now on Beatport and iTunes
