Andrew Emil, Glass Slipper, Claude Young - Incidental Introspection

Andrew Emil and Glass Slipper join forces with Claude Young for timeless and soulful EP ‘Incidental Introspection', issued on Colour and Pitch.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Colour and Pitch is delighted to welcome back to the label Austin duo Glass Slipper (Lisa Cork-Twiss and Brad Eller) and Chicago producer Andrew Emil, alongside a label debut from an all-time musical hero of ours, Detroit’s own Claude Young Jr.

Ranging from 80’s-tinged boogie to House, ‘Incidental Introspection’ cooks up a truly singular, timeless fusion for 2024 and beyond. Slinky mid-tempo opener ‘Fade Out’ summons up retro Miami beach feels, while Lisa’s stunning vocal deals with the very modern issue of social media burnout.

‘Dancefloor Paramour’ keeps the grooves languid, while Lisa’s layered and reverb-drenched vocal summons up a dream-like and fleeting late-night encounter. Instrumental House cut ‘Unclaimed Restraint’ rolls effortlessly with a fat bass-line and dreamy classic chords.

Crushed, off-kilter drums and sparse chords introduce ‘God Only Knows’, before Lisa’s voice expresses both personal and universal existential questions like a mournful gospel confessional. Finally, Brad re-imagines ‘Dancefloor Paramour’ as a slick Disco House number, somewhat reminiscent of classic early Crazy P or Ray Mang productions.

“This EP was finished right before Covid hit in 2020 but feels timeless and I’m so excited to have it finally see the light of day” says Lisa Cork-Twiss. Andrew Emil continues: "Claude and I had been friends for some years through our work together creating sample packs, content, videos and editorial during my days directing the digital category at Reverb. We wrote all the track skeletons during a weekend in 2019 when Claude was staying with me in Chicago, and I finished up the tracks before I sent them off to Brad and Lisa of Glass Slipper to check out. They really loved three of them, and right away recorded their contributions and sent them back. I mixed them down and they added their remix, and there this project was.” Brad concludes: “The base tracks Andrew and Claude created were very inspiring, and Lisa never ceases to amaze me with her songwriting. I feel very lucky to be a part of this talented cohort.”

Glass Slipper - Momentary Joy

Following a series of scintillating live shows in their hometown of Austin, producer/vocal duo Glass Slipper return to Colour And Pitch with new single ‘Momentary Joy’, featuring a remix by Chicago’s own Andrew Emil.

Smooth, soulful house with powerhouse vocals by Lisa Cork-Twiss, ‘Momentary Joy’ calls for a life beyond the day-to-day grind, while classic chord stabs and an M1 organ bass-line propel the track into dance-floor territory.

Andrew Emil remains the only recording artist to produce simultaneously for Derrick Carter’s Classic Music Company, Mark Farina’s Great Lakes Audio, Gene Farris’s Farris Wheel Recordings, and Steve “Silk” Hurley’s S&S Records. Put simply, Andrew Emil is firmly entrenched among Chicago’s House music elite and we are delighted to welcome him to Colour and Pitch for the first time.

Andrew’s ‘Dreamix’ combines hard-hitting drums, subtle jazz-tinged percussion and a hypnotic bassline, washed over by lush pads and atmospherics. For those who prefer their house a little stripped back, Emil’s ‘Dreamstrumental’ dub will definitely hit the spot.

Andrew Duke - Famous EP

It's truly an honour to present this EP from shadowy underground music hero Andrew Duke. Running his weekly radio mix-show show continuously for almost three decades, the Canadian DJ and producer's commitment to the cause simply cannot be questioned. Having released his own brand of mercurial, original music since '93, the title 'Famous' could be viewed as a tongue-in-cheek reference to Andrew's relative anonymity despite his frankly intimidating resume... Though he's clearly too busy curating and creating great music to worry about such things. First coming to the attention of Colour and Pitch through his dedicated support of our releases on the radio show, we were simply bowled over by the 'Famous EP' when it first arrived in our inbox.

Title track 'Famous' features Chicago spoken word artist Keter Darker, whose voice falls somewhere between Maxi Jazz and Gil Scott Heron in its languid, atmospheric delivery. Hypnotic conga rhythms and bleak synths give a sense of futility to the repeated lyrical refrain; 'everyone wants to be famous'. 'Gonna Make It (Second Nature)' plays with broken vocal snippets over slow-motion rhythms, building gently toward a spine-tingling, chord-laden, afro-tinged and utterly addictive groove. Referencing the political strategy of appeasement, the brilliantly titled 'Bread & Circus (Blind Nation)' moves the EP into late-night club territory, with techno influenced percussion and jazzy rhodes chords providing a sleazy backdrop for more of Keter Darker's powerful wordplay. At Andrew's personal request, Orlando's electronic explorer Q-Burns Abstract Message closes out the EP with a truly special reworking of 'Famous'. Expanding on the unique new sound he employed whilst remixing Sumsuch's track 'Shine' for Colour and Pitch last year, Q-BAM's version of 'Famous' is tense, uplifting, deeply cinematic and pretty much indescribable: just listen.

'Andrew Duke creates music that sounds like it has a reason for living' (The Wire, UK)

Aiby - Can't Make You Happy

One half of the brilliant Aiby & The Noise, Vanessa Rodriguez is a producer, DJ and DIY vocalist from Barcelona, Spain. Over the last year or so she’s been mostly locked in the studio getting to grips with an increasingly large array of analogue synths. Her hard work is now bearing sweet fruit, in the form of a very special pair of productions for Colour and Pitch.

Blueprints from the early Detroit techno of Juan Atkins and Metroplex run through both cuts; technology lovingly imbued with soul and emotion. The title track ‘Can’t Make You Happy’ can only be described as a deeply personal, visceral and understated piece of electronic music, with warped, dreamy chord-scapes tugging at the heartstrings behind a tragic vocal refrain. ‘Guess Who’s Back’ moves seamlessly onto the dance-floor, bridging the gaps between House, Techno and Electro music (and having a lot of fun in the process). We’re immensely proud to be entrusted with these two spectacular tracks; we hope you love them as much as we do!

Early support from Parris Mitchell, Demarkus Lewis, Soul Minority & Jazzy M.

TwelveBitMusic - First Flight EP

Buy on iTunes: geni.us/1gYn
Or Beatport: www.beatport.com/release/first-flight/1451384

Our first release of 2015 sees the debut release from TwelveBitMusic, a new collaboration between C&P stalwart Finest Wear and Dance Music heavyweight James Hockley.

Finest Wear (formerly known as Mr Cenzo) has released two stellar EPs on Colour and Pitch, with a third coming later this spring. His restrained, hypnotic sound has caught the attention of Deep Housers across the globe, among them The Timewriter, Lars Behrenroth, Ralf GUM & Shur-i-Kan.

Since replacing none other than MJ Cole as programmer and engineer at a private studio in London, James Hockley has worked on projects for Fedde Le Grande, William Orbit, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, BT and Chicane (with whom he co produced 'Poppiholla' and the album 'Giants').

Fusing Finest Wear’s underground House credentials with Hockley’s ‘Big Room’ Dance pedigree, TwelveBitMusic represents an exciting musical prospect indeed. The result is three cuts of masterfully produced Deep House music, ebbing and flowing throughout, arranged with subtlety, poise and grace.

For fans of: Jimpster, Spiritchaser, Chez Damier, Tigerskin, Red Wine, Mature Cheese & Comfortable Trousers.

Aiby & The Noise - Dangerous Liaisons

Following their bomb of a remix for Teysel’s ‘Continuous’, Aiby & The Noise return to Colour and Pitch with a pair of their own productions. The partnership of Barcelona producers Garcy Noise and Vanessa Aiby has been bearing sweet fruit of late, with releases on Justified Cause, Vizual Recordings and many other highly credible labels.

When Aiby sent this pair of tracks over to us, we got very excited indeed. Deep, warm and analogue; emotional yet dancefloor-friendly, both tracks represent the exact aesthetic we had in mind when Colour and Pitch was founded.
